cheapest car and car insurance for an adult first time driver?
hi
i just passed my driving tests and looking for a cheap, small and reliable car.
i am 27 and a full time student. i live in small UK city. would like to how much to expect to pay for
car and road tax. what other things to expect to sort out.
god bless you
Insurance – typically around £1000 but can vary a lot depending on the crime stats in your home area and where the car is kept along with a few other things.
Road tax can vary from £30 a year for a small not much polluting car to £450 a year for a gas guzzling Range Rover or similar. Typically for a modest 1.3 to 1.6 car expect to pay around £165 a year
MOT test once a year and it usually costs £35 plus whatever if anything needs to be rectified. £200 does not go far on MOT rectification.
AA or RAC cover – £90 a year
Fuel – typically but variable around 14p for every mile you drive (average driver does 10000 a year so £1400 on fuel a year)
Servicing – at least once a year and on older cars twice a year and it will be at least £100 and can be up to £400 if it is time for a new cam belt, brake fluid change and coolant change as well as all the every service items.
Mmmm – after working all that out I think I am going to sell my car!
